Your Guide to Christmas in Asheville

November 28, 2021

Come to Asheville for Christmas!  Spend the holidays in the Blue Ridge mountains.  Choose from plenty of seasonal activities.  Pack your layers and make lasting memories at Pinecrest Bed & Breakfast.  Read our holiday guide and start planning so you don’t miss out on any of the fun.

Annual Holiday Traditions

There is plenty to do in Asheville and we’ve picked out some of the best activities that return year after year.

  • Christmas at Biltmore is dazzling.  See the estate in all its holiday finery including complimentary tastings at the winery.  Splurge for Candlelight Christmas Evenings and cross it off your bucket list.  This event runs from early November until early January but it does sell out on weekends and holidays. Pssst, we have a discount code!

  • Polish up on your Christmas carols and join in the singing.  Holly Jolly Christmas Trolley Tours departs from Biltmore Village.  Enjoy storytelling and caroling while touring downtown, Montford, and Grove Park neighborhoods. Runs Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights from mid-November through December.
  • Live like a local and kick off the season.  The Asheville Holiday Parade runs one mile through downtown.  Watch for bands, floats, and of course, Mr. & Mrs. Claus.  Spend the rest of the day exploring downtown Asheville.
  • Explore the North Carolina Arboretum at night with Winter Lights.  See the 50 foot lighted tree and Quilted Gardens, complete with lights and Christmas music.
  • Every year, Asheville hosts the National Gingerbread Competition at the Omni Grove Park Inn.  Grab hot cocoa from the lifesize gingerbread house in the lobby.  Then stroll the halls to see the many gingerbread displays including the grand champion.

Shopping?  Check!

Asheville is the perfect destination to shop for one-of-a-kind gifts.  Pick out a unique local gift from these recommended shops in downtown, just a one mile walk from Pinecrest.

  • Booklover on your list?  Find all the latest new titles at Malaprops, an independent bookstore in Asheville since 1982.  For that vintage find, stop at Battery Park Book Exchange (& Champagne Bar.)  Bubbles make browsing more fun!
  • Woolworth Walk features about 170 local artists offering jewelry, fine art, decorative art and crafts in its nearly 20,000 square feet.  Browse the best local art while sipping a milkshake from the Old Fashioned Soda Fountain.
  • Asheville Bee Charmer has not one, but two downtown shops with a variety of sweet gifts.  Try a sample at their honey bar.  Choose from local specialty sourwood honey or infusions like firecracker hot honey.  Skincare, candles, t-shirts, and their own cookbook round out the collection.
  • Does someone on your nice list need a new frock?  Stop at Ad Lib, a fixture in downtown since 1989. This boutique is known far and wide for its unique and varied selection of women’s clothing, jewelry, and accessories.
  • Last but not least, go to Asheville’s modern market, Duncan & York.  Stocking local and handmade gifts from around the world, shopping here is a delight.  We dare you to leave empty-handed.

Comfort (food) and Joy

Celebrate with food and friends during the holidays in Asheville. If you are looking for a great night out, we recommend these delicious destinations.

  • When it comes to farm-to-table, look no further than Corner Kitchen.  Located in Biltmore Village, this culinary staple has been serving American fare since 2003.  Or try their sister restaurant, Chestnut.  Everything is made in-house and their menu changes monthly so head downtown for a taste of the season.
  • Nothing says comfort like French food.  How lucky to have Bouchon downtown!  Chef-owner Michel Baudouin grew up in France’s Rhone Valley.  He carried his love of food to Asheville so much so, he opened Rendezvous in a converted church in East Asheville. If you’ve arrived in town and reservations for fine dining are scarce, order from the prix fixe menu and dine in our parlor.  Problem solved.
