Our Favorite Tacos in Asheville

A picnic table at our favorite tacos in Asheville by the river with a basket of 2 tacos and a cup of water

Where are our favorite tacos in Asheville?  We have the scoop.   From food trucks, to taco Tuesday, carryout and more, check out this list for the best tacos in town.

Little Billy (and Taco Billy) for the Closest Tacos

If you do not want to go far for tacos, walk to Little Billy.  This taco truck is parked behind our favorite neighborhood bar, Little Jumbo.  This is the first outpost for Taco Billy.  However, they do not carry all the tacos of the flagship but it’s enough to satisfy your appetite.  Speaking of Taco Boy, we recommend ordering online for quick service.  And guess where the innkeepers get breakfast tacos on their day off?

El Kimchi for Our Favorite Tacos from a Truck

What goes with tacos?  Beer!  We love El Kimchi because it’s a mobile food truck that parks at local breweries.  The menu is a mashup of Mexican and Korean.  Our favorite protein choice is the chicken (teriyaki but they have spicy too.)  Since they are on the move, follow their schedule on their Facebook page.  However they are consistently at New Belgium Brewery on Fridays.  It is located on the French Broad River and has an amazing outdoor space.  What a great place to eat tacos (and other El Kimchi favorites like bibim bap, burritos, and pork dumplings, ask for extra crispy.)

White Duck Taco Shop for Favorite Tacos in 3 Locations

With four locations in the Greater Asheville area, White Duck Taco Shop is always close by.  Our favorite shop is Asheville/RAD because it’s on the French Broad River with loads of outdoor seating and plenty of parking.  Moreover it’s a hop, skip, and a jump from French Broad Outfitters and Zen Tubing and tacos taste better after a day on the river.  The downtown location is convenient for lunch with an outdoor patio in the back.  There are over 10 kinds of tacos which change seasonally but our favorites are crispy chicken BLT, Bangkok shrimp, and Thai peanut chicken.  Try the house sangria too!

The Cantina at Historic Biltmore Village

Favorite tacos of beef and chicken on a plate at the Cantina

If you’re in Biltmore Village, go to The Cantina.  They have both indoor and outdoor seating and accept large parties.  Also they have call-ahead seating so put your name on the list and wander the shops just outside the Biltmore Estate.  Margaritas are half-price on Mondays but we’ll order them any day on the rocks with salt.  Beyond their seven kinds of tacos, we recommend the black & blue nachos, mango chicken salad, and fajitas.  If you are not a fan of the side of rice and beans, tell your server and The Cantina makes a donation to the local food bank when you skip your side dish.  Win, win.

Mountain Madre for Our Favorite Tacos in downtown Asheville

Mountain Madre is a family-owned Mexican Kitchen and Agave Bar.  In fact, they have the largest Tequila and Mezcal selection in Western North Carolina.  So once you’ve chosen your margarita, we recommend the loaded nachos to start.  While there are 8 kinds of tacos at Mountain Madre, our favorite is the fajita tacos.  Other dishes we order is their Street Corn (get it off the cob) and Enchiladas (either beef or chicken or 1 of each.)  They do not accept reservations but the space is quite large and there is outdoor dining on the patio.  If you are traveling with a large group, they do take group bookings for 10+ people so keep this in mind if you are with lots of friends in downtown Asheville.

Taco Temple for Tuesdays and Carryout

When Tuesdays roll around, do you dream of tacos?  If the answer is yes, Taco Temple serves our favorite tacos in Asheville. It’s our absolute favorite recommendation for the best tacos in town any day (except Sunday because they are closed.)  The taco lineup here is unmatched with 4 breakfast tacos though you won’t need them since breakfast is included at Pinecrest B&B.  At lunch or dinner, Taco Temple serves 11 kinds of tacos…more than anyone we know of in Asheville. Not only are there abundant options, you can opt for flour or handmade corn tortillas.  Our favorite tacos to order are Al Pastor, Santa Barbara, Baja, Cabo and Panela.  Furthermore we add a small queso to our taco box order which is delicious beside their salsa and chips.

One thing to keep in mind, we do not go to Taco Temple for the ambiance as it’s counter service in a retrofitted gas station.  However we do recommend ordering online to pickup in the drive thru for a fast convenient meal.  Eat your tacos at Pinecrest, maybe in the sunporch or on the terrace.  This could be a particularly helpful solution after a long day of traveling to Asheville when you can’t muster the energy to find a fancy dinner option.

The Best Asheville NC Bed & Breakfast

While there are plenty of options for lodging in Asheville, check out Pinecrest Bed & Breakfast.  Firstly the location is in a desirable historic neighborhood with quiet tree-lined residential street.  Next, access to major highways is less than one mile which makes it fast to get wherever you are going.  But best of all is the homemade breakfast served fresh and hot to our guests every day.  Come see why Breakfast is in our name!
