Mother-Daughter Therapy!

Mother’s Day is just around the corner and mom deserves to be pampered with a getaway to Asheville.  We’ve crafted a perfect weekend for you and mom at Pinecrest Bed & Breakfast. When you start your day with our fresh hot breakfast, you can shop until you drop!

Retail Therapy

Spend the day in downtown Asheville.  Whether you walk or drive, our B&B is just a short distance through a residential historic district full of many architectural styles.  Since there are so many choices of shops, we offer up some of our favorites here:

lou lou is a small chain of family-owned boutiques featuring accessories, jewelry, and clothing.  Particularly, we love ABLE, a lifestyle brand committed to empowering women in fashion as a solution to end poverty.

Battery Park Book Exchange (and champagne bar!)  Undoubtedly the place to shop for used books.  No judgment if your sip bubbles while shopping.

Minx Boutique has been open since 2002.  Offering chic contemporary womenswear, we follow their Instagram feed for our fashion fix.

Duncan & York specializes in local and handmade gifts from around the world.  Overall the best gift shop in Asheville with a little something for everyone, from cards to candles, books, mugs, and baby gifts.  Plus the best souvenir t-shirts in town.

Art Therapy

Asheville has a vibrant and thriving arts scene with galleries and working artist studios.  Below are some of our not-to-be-missed stops.

Asheville Gallery of Art, in downtown Asheville, began in 1988 and has 31 members.  With over 500 original works of fine art in a variety of styles and media, there is something for everyone at AGA.

Also in downtown Asheville, Woolworth Walk is in the original F. W. Woolworth building.  This store-now-gallery features diverse works by 175 local artists & a restored soda fountain.  Art and a milkshake, anyone?

River Arts District (RAD) is one of the largest art districts in the United States.  In working studios and galleries, over 240 artists create and share their art with visitors daily.  Newly finished pedestrian ways make this easy to navigate by foot.  Moreover, park your car in the free parking lot at the end of  Depot Street.  Then walk to Trackside Studios, Pink Dog Creative, and Wedge Studios.  Don’t miss Bottle Riot after art, our favorite wine bar in the RAD.

History Therapy

Do you scour the real estate ads even if you are not buying a home?  Do you wonder what is behind the doors of a stately mansion?  Then you should tour America’s Largest Home,  Biltmore House, an architectural wonder.  Completed in 1895, Biltmore has over 250 rooms, 43 bathrooms, and even an indoor swimming pool!  While tours of Biltmore House require a timed reservation, access the grounds, all 8,000 acres of it, anytime during the day with your ticket.  Do not miss the gardens, Conservatory, or Winery for a free tasting.

If you made the choice to stay at Pinecrest, you are sleeping in history in our 1905 English Tudor home.  Much of our Montford neighborhood, including Pinecrest, became part of the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.  No trip is complete without a walk around our neighborhood to see multiple architectural styles, gardens, and Riverview Cemetary among other sights to see on “Our Own Montford Walking Tour.”

Food Therapy

One of the best reasons to stay at Pinecrest Bed & Breakfast is…..breakfast.  Each day at 9 am, we serve up a hot fresh indulgent meal to start your day’s adventures.  We serve dishes that highlight our partnerships with local purveyors such as French roast from Mountain City Roasters, sausage from Hickory Nut Gap Meats, and eggs from Colfax Creek Farms.

We encourage guests to stop by one of the tailgate markets to see the unique offerings of Appalachian farmers.  Often we shop on Saturday mornings at the North Asheville Tailgate Market or try the RAD Farmer’s Market on Wednesday afternoon.  Its location near Wedge Foundation brewery and 12 Bones Smokehouse make it a great place to see before enjoying BBQ and a beer.

You will not have to go far for an excellent dinner choice as there are three local restaurants within walking distance of the bed and breakfast.  Check out “Let’s eat!” to read about Chiesa, Nine Mile, and All Day Darling.  Additionally, order carryout to enjoy on the sunporch or terrace.

Plan your Asheville getaway with mom (or sister or girlfriend) now and book the Cowley Suite at our charming historic bed & breakfast.  It has twin beds, a clawfoot tub, and plenty of shelves to hold your essentials. Then again, maybe a gift certificate for a future stay would brighten mom’s day.  Either way, Pinecrest Bed & Breakfast should be part of your plans when you visit Asheville.
