There’s a lot to love about Asheville: the mountain views, vibrant arts scene, historic architecture, and endless outdoor adventures. But one of the best reasons to visit? The food. And if you want the perfect home base while you’re exploring the city’s culinary gems, Pinecrest Bed & Breakfast is the place to stay.
Nestled in the peaceful Montford Historic District, Pinecrest offers charm, comfort, and gourmet breakfasts to fuel your days of adventure. From the classic “sleeping porch” to the lovingly restored interiors, it’s an ideal blend of Southern hospitality and timeless elegance.
Asheville’s restaurant scene is constantly evolving, but some places have earned a special place in locals’ hearts—and on visitors’ must-try lists—by serving consistently great food for over a decade. Here are five beloved Asheville restaurants that have stood the test of time:
Nine Mile – A Montford Favorite with Caribbean Flavor
A short walk from Pinecrest Bed & Breakfast, Nine Mile is a local favorite tucked into the Montford neighborhood. Open since 2008, this Caribbean-inspired restaurant is known for bold flavors, generous portions, and an inclusive, laid-back vibe. Our Dishes like the “Soul Rebel” or “One Foundation” are packed with veggies, proteins, and complex sauces that hit all the right notes. Their extensive vegan and gluten-free options make it easy for everyone to find something delicious.
For the personal favorites of the innkeepers, try Reggae Mylitis (big it up) Easy Skanking Salad, and Kingston 12 (substitute chicken for shrimp.) Insider tip: the portions are large so we often split an entrée and add a side salad.
It’s first come, first served and this restaurant is popular with locals and tourists alike so arrive early to avoid long wait times.

Chestnut – Downtown Asheville Elegance
Located just steps from Pack Square, Chestnut has been a downtown staple since 2012. Known for its warm, inviting atmosphere and a menu that celebrates seasonal, local ingredients, Chestnut offers a polished yet relaxed dining experience. The menu is eclectic American with traditional entrees as well as small plates and starters like the signature lobster bisque that innkeeper Dan finds irresistible. It’s a perfect spot for a date night, special celebration, or just a refined evening out in the heart of the city.
Chestnut will forever hold a special place in our hearts. Diane was visiting in 2015 when she had the most perfect Old Fashioned at the bar and the epiphany “I could live in Asheville.” This was also the first restaurant in which we dined in 2020 when the world was reopening during the pandemic. Setting the scene: a bistro table for 2 on the sidewalk in perfect weather, with a cocktail in a proper glass, and the most divine petite filet imaginable.

Edison – Views and Vibes at the Omni Grove Park Inn
If you’re after a meal with a view, Edison, Craft Ales + Kitchen at the Omni Grove Park Inn is the place. Located in one of Asheville’s most iconic resorts, Edison offers panoramic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains alongside a creative menu focused on locally sourced ingredients. Whether you’re sipping a local brew or enjoying a Carolina bison burger as the sun sets over the mountains, dining here is about more than the food—it’s an experience.
Dan almost always orders the trout or smash burger while Diane can’t resist the Signature Grilled Cheese which is served with tomato soup. Pure comfort food.
Plan ahead and make reservations on Open Table as they fill up, even on weekdays. They have a few bar seats and some lounge seating if you just want to sip a drink and watch the sunset.
Limones – Upscale Mexican with a Twist
For a fresh take on Mexican cuisine that goes far beyond tacos and burritos, Limones delivers. This small, stylish restaurant downtown fuses Mexican traditions with French and Californian influences. Chef Hugo Ramirez’s background in fine dining shines in dishes like ceviche with coconut leche de tigre, lamb birria, or duck confit enchiladas. The margarita menu is also something to write home about. Limones has been delighting diners since 2003, and once you try it, you’ll understand why it’s still going strong.
Rocky’s Hot Chicken Shack – Southern Comfort on Patton Avenue
Sometimes you just want something down-home and deeply satisfying. Rocky’s Hot Chicken Shack brings Nashville-style hot chicken to Asheville with crunchy, juicy, spicy goodness that keeps people coming back for more. Located on Patton Avenue (with a second location in South Asheville), Rocky’s is fast-casual at its finest. Whether you’re a heat-seeker or prefer it mild, pair your chicken with mac and cheese, collard greens, and banana pudding for the full comfort food experience.
All the fried chicken comes plain with your choice of sauce. It’s honey-mild for Dan but medium for Diane who can handle the heat when she orders the “2 Fried Thighs” plate with cole slaw, green beans, and an extra side of zippy ranch.
We appreciate the Rocky’s pivoted during the pandemic to carry-out only and never missed a beat. They do a brisk order-ahead and carry-out business to this day from their “chicken shack” outside the front door. So convenient if you want to bring a meal back to Pinecrest for a picnic on the terrace.
While we are not into branded merchandise, if Diane was going to buy a t-shirt it would be from Rocky’s that says “Giving You the Bird Since 2009.” Rocky’s has a great sense of humor!
Come for the Food, Stay for the Charm
After a day of indulging in Asheville’s culinary legends, coming back to Pinecrest Bed & Breakfast is a treat in itself. Sip wine on the porch, stroll the quiet Montford streets, and relax in a room that feels like home—but better. Plus, you’ll wake up to a thoughtfully prepared breakfast that’s as memorable as any dinner out. Whether you’re here for the mountains, the art, or the amazing meals, Pinecrest is your perfect Asheville retreat.
